Comic Style Art

Space Usagi in color

I scanned and colored the pre-grey toned inks from my Space Usagi for the Stan Sakai CAPS benefit auction. The Stan Sakai benefit auction is to help Stan and his wife Sharon. Sharon’s illness requires 24-hour care and medicines that cost more than their insurance covers. I will post again when the action is live. You can also help in various ways here:

The final inked and toned piece. Done on 9×12 Bristol, inked 95% with a Japanese brush pen, the rest with microns. Gray tones done with Copic markers warm and cool grey sets. I didn’t want to use any white out, but I couldn’t help myself and used a little Pelican Graphic White with a brush. It was used mainly on the large black area on his left wrist. I was careful to plan it so those areas would not need shading as the Copics would not work properly over the white.

Bub the zombie from George Romero’s Day of the Dead. 100 percent photoshop on my Cintiq. I did this Tuesday…and Tuesnight for a zombie themed event at Illusive Comics with Marc Rene this past Wednesday. Despite the self-imposed rush I was pretty happy with how it came out. I have some print up for sale on my Etsy store if you are interested.

Jessica Rabbit was the first collaboration sketch cover I ever did, I did the pencil sketch Marc did the finished inks.

This last pic is a Walking Dead sketch cover book with the Tar man zombie from Return of the Living Dead on it. Currently for sale at Illusive comics and Games for 30.00 if it’s still there next week, it goes up on ebay.

Below are some other pics from the day:

A few weeks ago Level Up games in Santa Cruz had their first ever art show, and I was lucky enough to be invited to table there. BONUS! I split the table with Quelyn who has started doing perler bead stuff that looks like 8 bit graphics of video games, adventure time, and everything else with her Q*bits . She did better than me with sales! I did do a couple sketches which I have included. Good times chill people and a great store.

Go Nagi’s inspirational super robot, Mazinger Z!!! Also known in the US as Tranzor Z. Here he is towering over Japan and firing his signature rocket punch. Done 100 percent in Photoshop on my Cintiq. Probably took me about 12 hours from beginning to end, not including the sketch studies I did for a few days leading up to doing this one. A few progress pics followed by the final, which will be a print. At 11×14 it’s my biggest print to date, how fitting for the godfather of giant super robots! This brand new print of Mazinger Z will be available for the first time this Friday at: Level Up Video Games for their first art show!
